It's cold enough here to need a lid on my coffee to stop it getting cold. I've had a week where I found everything hard to draw or un-inspiring.
I've tried to draw these mugs several times and still can't get them right but decided to post it anyway.
I bought some Chinese ink the other day and outlined the pattern with that, not sure it works but the great thing is that once dry you can paint over without smudging.
Will work on it. One thing I realise I learned from doing the sketchbook project is how to move on to the next drawing ......
Doesn't look too bad to me Debra, in fact it's very good, ok the ellipses are not perfect but who is?
ReplyDeleteThe mug looks good to me - maybe your dissatisfaction/lack of interest is down to working so hard to finish for the sketchbook project? Maybe you need a little break?
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil and Sarah......When I was doing the sketchbook I had lots of ideas of what I wanted to draw (but this wasn't one of them)maybe I do need a break but that bottom ellipse is driving me mad! there's no way to change it though.....going to draw something very organic next
ReplyDeleteThis is very nice, Debra,
ReplyDeleteRemember in life sometimes the ellipse isn't quite right either.
I am impressed with all the detail you've captured here.
xoxo
I wish I could draw an ellipse half as good as you. I think this is very successful and I am always amazed at how much detail you put into your drawings.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sarah, maybe a little break will help you regain your motivation.
Thanks for your frequent visits to my blog, I always appreciate your comments and thoughts.
It looks good to me Debra. I love seeing your drawings!
ReplyDeleteI like it and I bet your coffee stays warm! I think it's an after effect of all those pages of your sketchbook project too. It's a bit like burn out?
ReplyDeleteGood take on the Sketchbook Project, I struggled all the way through that thing; but I found an strong interest in Modigliani while working on it and that's my concentration now. I think you mug is Awesome!
ReplyDeleteOh my, what a lovely drawing. We do at pieces from different viewpoints:I'd be delighted to have accomplished such a nice piece.
ReplyDeleteLooks very good to me (especially as I've just finished a very wonky drawing of a plate!). And the lid is a great idea I've not seen in the UK :)
ReplyDeleteI think you rendered it beautifully!
ReplyDeleteOh, it looks good, very good actually. The color is really terrific.
ReplyDeleteI find ellipses to be very difficult. So much so that I haven't attempted this challenge yet.
I think I'd fall over dead if anything of mine came out this great! Lovely details!
ReplyDeleteI love the mug- sometimes we are so very hard on ourselves and magnify little bits that others would gloss over without truly seeing. As my kiddos tell me, "Just step away, it's good as it is".
ReplyDeleteI think you have done a wonderful drawing. Beautiful colors too.
ReplyDeleteAlice
Mmmmm, I could go for some nice hot tea right now. Beautiful drawing of the Chinese Mug. I love how you get all the details in your paintings.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! Wish I could sketch like this!
ReplyDeleteLOL at Raena's comment! Raena, your drawings are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnd this cup is very special, Debra! They sell them in the World Market store here in the states and I always admired them. Your drawing here shows its intricate pattern very well.
your ability to pant so many fine details are amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh boy, my mom had some of these and she only used those for black bitter chinese medicines or strong herbal tea which I dreaded. But come to think of it, I kinda miss those yucky things, and I definitely miss the mug. As always, beautiful work, and thank you for bringing the 'common' things back into the eyes of EDM.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for your comments too Debra.
