A very fluffy feather. I ran out of watercolour paper so painted this on the inside thin separating wood used in cigar boxes, so no I didn't paint the wood. I'd forgotten how absorbent it is, but this was fun.

You really used the wood's surface to your advantage! I went to school with some people that went bananas over cigar boxes for painting but they gessoed the surface. This and the butterfly are lovely.
