Arthouse Sketchbook Project page 15

Thanks for your kind comments everyone, here's the next page.......
I love seeing these insects! (These are taken from a photograph I took of one on the balcony but I put in two views)

Just so you know, traditional mooncakes (on the right of my previous picture) are made from lotus seed paste and salty duck eggs and are very heavy to eat.
The white mooncakes are Taipan Snowy mooncakes which are a kind of modern version.(These ones had a lemon tea and pomelo filling)
It is traditional to give these to friends and family at the mid-autumn festival.

  2. they are amazing aren't they? when I was in India I found a tiny one - must have been youngster - it was only about 2cm long!

Very nicely rendered, and lovely lush colours!

  5. I love them! I think they're one of the most fascinating insects, the way their heads can move around like a person's. This is another great addition to your sketchbook! nancy

  6. They are adorable! Beautifully illustrated Debra =) And I think Praying mantis are cute insects...I don't like them when they do fly, but they are always so interesting to look at.

  7. I love praying mantis! I actually bought some egg sacks of these to put in my garden (they eat pests). When they hatched, the little babies were all over the place! So cute! Really love your drawing!

  8. Thanks everyone
How lovely that you can buy egg sacks Raena....you and Sarah are right, I've only seen the babies a few times but they are very cute.
I love the little dance they do when you get too close (although I suppose the females are not very nice to the males)
This one was very obliging though and was conveniently hanging around on a red plant!

  9. So exotic and interesting. I had a praying mantis crawl on my arm once, and I will remember forever. Luckily she didn't eat me up.

  10. We had several at our new house and my grandson was fascinated with them. And Daddy Long Legs spiders (He does not like spiders, but liked these.) Unfortunately, we had exterminators come to get rid of things like scorpions and fire ants, and it killed the praying mantis and Daddy Long Legs, too.
