Arthouse Sketchbook Project Page 39

This is the last sketch page, the next one will have name/blog info.
I have the cover and first title page to do...and fiddle around with the last few pages.
The thickness has made it a bit hard to scan properly....

I just want to thank you all for the encouragement and support.

If you lived here ......

and you'd see bamboo scaffolding..............

Arthouse Sketchbook Project Page 31

bamboo steamer shop in Sai Ying Pun

This shop and the dried food / baskets shops may soon disappear from Hong Kong and be replaced by yet more designer stores as the M.T.R expands and rents become too high for small business.
Let's hope that some shops with character unique to H.K. remain

dried food......
(hope you notice the lizards and snake making another appearance)

If you lived here you'd see baskets in Sheung Wan

Arthouse Sketchbook Project Page 24

My friend and neighbour Makha Diop from Senegal.

Another big learning curve, when this project's over I want to tackle people on a larger scale.

I'm finding it hard to get the faces right at this size!
One minute they look O.K. and then one wrong tiny mark changes the whole thing!!! I think when you know a person it's harder. I may go back but still quite  few more pages to go.

Packed Lunch
These amazing big woodland or golden orb spiders hang around in the trees and weave the most beautiful  large webs...this is the female (another lady who eats her mate)...the males are tiny red spiders.

We get these black-eared kites all year round gliding in the sky.

it doesn't scan so well. Will decide in the clear light of day.

Arthouse Sketchbook Project Page 16

The reason I live on the top floor........this one visited my neighbours downstairs.
My cat was trying to stare it out.( He sometimes brings baby cobras as his little cat "gifts" and brought a larger as yet un-identified snake last week, sadly in three pieces so not good to draw)
A Chinese cobra, not very large, about 80cm but still....

We get a few interesting snakes on Lamma (this is not the scariest and for those on facebook check out Lamma Snake Sightings group)

Thanks for your kind comments everyone, here's the next page.......
I love seeing these insects! (These are taken from a photograph I took of one on the balcony but I put in two views)

Just so you know, traditional mooncakes (on the right of my previous picture) are made from lotus seed paste and salty duck eggs and are very heavy to eat.
The white mooncakes are Taipan Snowy mooncakes which are a kind of modern version.(These ones had a lemon tea and pomelo filling)
It is traditional to give these to friends and family at the mid-autumn festival.

Arthouse Sketchbook Project page 8 (If you lived here)

If you lived here, you could go for a morning swim...and collect some shells.......

Something that makes me very sad is that at certain times in summer
the tides bring in lots of rubbish and the sea turns browny green colour......

More dim sum, want to add the chinese at some point.
This was done on the thin paper

and you'd  know that.......

Arthouse Sketchbook Project page 1 and 2

Thank you everyone for your comments...here is page 1 and 2/3...still work in progress......

the first page I stuck down with wood glue and it went very soggy, but gave me a chance to play. Page three is drawn on the paper and doesn't show through too much to the other side.
Since this I've used spray mount at the suggestion of http://makenart.blogspot.com/.
This wonderful blog has lots of tests on the paper. Thanks for all the research Makenart!

Arthouse Sketchbook Project page 1

Work in progress, my theme is "If you lived here"
I've made a start but on watercolour paper. My next page will be in pencil on the thin paper, and probably stick some things in from time to time.

I'm finding the size hard to adjust to but I least I've begun. I've decided to leave the cover until later.

Trolley with ginger flowers

The last bunch of ginger flowers, which grow locally, for sale early one morning.
This is a small hand-pulled trolley that locals often use to carry the shopping...

Thanks for all your comments on the previous posts.
